A Cartier Choker With a Text Message From Kanye West is a One-Of-A-Kind Gift

Kanye West’s a big believer in sentimental gifts, which is why he recently turned a text message he sent to wife Kim Kardashian into a one-of-a-kind necklace. Kardashian shared the necklace and the original text on Sunday night (Jan. 12) in a post.

The text, which reads “This your life,” refers to Kardashian’s successes as a mother of four. In addition, the rapper pointed to her work on prison reform in the message.

1. History

If you’ve been following Kim Kardashian and Kanye West on social media, you probably know that they go all out for their gifts. This includes drafting in a 50-person orchestra to pop the question, giving her a diamond choker for her first child North West, and last year donating $1 million to charities she supports.

On Sunday, Kardashian shared a photo of her new necklace on Twitter with the words “This your life / Married with four kids / Get people out of jail / Cover of Vogue / Dreams come true” etched onto it. The vintage Cartier piece, which he gave her for her birthday this year, is one of the latest additions to their collection of grandiose gifts that have made Kim and Kanye both the talk of the internet.

For her 32nd birthday in 2012, she got a $35,000 Cartier panther bracelet and for Valentine’s Day, she got a black cuff with diamond-encrusted panthers worth nearly $70,000. But this is probably the most personalised piece of jewelry she’s ever received.

The ‘Patiala Necklace’ is an heirloom jewellery that dates back to 1928 when the Maharaja of Patiala Bhupinder Singh commissioned luxury jeweller Cartier to turn the De Beers diamond into a neck choker. The necklace is adorned with 2930 diamonds and Burmese rubies, making it one of the most expensive jewellery pieces in history.

But the Patiala Necklace has a dark history, which goes back to the Partition of India in 1947. According to reports, the necklace disappeared from the royal treasury and was found scattered across London over 30 years later. A portion of the necklace went up for sale at Sotheby’s in 1982, while others remained in storage at a second-hand store.

It was only in 1998 that Cartier bought the incomplete necklace and replaced the missing stones with replicas. It then reappeared in the Cartier archives in 2007 and was loaned to Emma Chamberlain, who wore it at the Met Gala.

Many netizens are taking exception to this and believe that Emma Chamberlain’s decision to wear the Patiala Necklace is disrespectful. As it was looted from an Indian king and taken by white colonial rulers, it’s a very sensitive issue that is sure to garner a lot of attention online.

2. Design

The Met Gala was full of famous celebs wearing iconic pieces that had a historical significance. It’s no secret that Kim Kardashian was in the midst of some controversy at this year’s event, as she was criticized for wearing Marilyn Monroe’s dress.

It wasn’t the only snafu of the night though as influencer Emma Chamberlain opted to wear a choker that was once owned by the Maharaja of Patiala, Bhupinder Singh! The encrusted piece was seen on Chamberlain at the MET Gala 2022 and has since stirred up plenty of controversy.

In case you haven’t heard, the YouTuber is an ambassador for Cartier and has been on a mission to promote the brand. And while her pleated beige crop top and trailing skirt dripping in diamonds were gorgeous, it was her choker that really caught the eye!

What’s more, the antique necklace is engraved with an image of a text message Kanye West sent to his wife Kim Kardashian. This message references her successes as a mother, Vogue cover girl and her work with people in the criminal justice system.

According to TMZ, Kardashian recently took to Twitter to show off the necklace she received from her husband. She also shared a screenshot of the original text message she received.

As it turns out, this vintage Cartier gold plaque necklace has an engraved image of a text message Kanye sent her back in May 2019. The message reads, “This your life/ Married with four kids/ Get people out of jail/ Cover of Vogue/ Go to church every week with your family/ Dreams come true,” and the necklace reportedly features a window image that looks like it’s a view of their home in Hidden Hills, CA.

While Kanye has been known for his grand gestures, he’s also always been a fan of giving Kim sentimental gifts. He drafted in a 50-person orchestra to propose to her in a baseball stadium back in 2013, gifted her a Lorraine Schwartz diamond choker “push present” for their first child North West, and last year donated $1 million to her favorite charities.

3. Diamonds

Cartier has an unmatched slew of diamond necklaces to choose from, all made with exceptional care. The collection ranges from antique pieces that were crafted long ago to modern creations that feature innovative, reimagined designs and precious gems.

For instance, the brand’s Amulette de Cartier, launched in 2014, features a disk-shaped pendant that opens and closes like a padlock. It is a symbol of security and has been worn by models Karlie Kloss and Poppy Delevingne.

Another famous piece is the Collier Hindou, a sumptuous emerald, ruby and sapphire adorned necklace that was commissioned by French-American socialite Daisy Fellowes in 1936. It was one of the earliest examples of Cartier’s Indian-inspired designs that integrate stone-carving techniques from India’s jewelry-making traditions into its collections.

Known for its meticulous craftsmanship, Cartier’s jewels are coveted around the world. They’re often worn by famous stars and celebrities, such as Grace Kelly, Wallis Simpson and Marjorie Merriweather Post.

Kim Kardashian is a fan of the brand and has often been seen wearing its pieces, including an 18-karat gold Juste Un Clou choker that contains 162 round brilliant cut diamonds, which equates to 3.17 carats of diamonds total. This is a bold and beautiful necklace that will surely grab the attention of anyone who sees it.

The brand’s diamond jewelry has been lent to several movie productions, including Ocean’s 8, which features Mindy Kaling wearing a Cartier Collection suite of diamond brooches and earrings. In addition, the actress can be seen wearing a diamond lavaliere necklace that dates back to 1906.

There are many different kinds of diamonds available, but the most popular are the D and H-grades. The D-graded diamonds are colorless and have little or no fluorescence, while the H-graded diamonds are colorless but have slight imperfections.

When choosing a diamond for your cartier necklace, you should always look for GIA-certified diamonds. Unlike other diamonds, which are categorized by their color, GIA-certified diamonds must be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity that explains where and how the diamond was mined and how it was treated in its development.

4. Price

Kanye West is known for going all out for his wife, Kim Kardashian, and the latest installment in their lavish gift-giving is a vintage Cartier necklace that’s engraved with an old text message from her husband. In a tweet, Kardashian shared a picture of the necklace and praised her husband as “the most thoughtful person” in her life.

The rapper, 42, reportedly sent the text message in May to his wife after she landed her solo cover of Vogue and welcomed their fourth child via surrogate, son Psalm. He told her that her success is something to be proud of, and the text message was a reminder that she should cherish her accomplishments and never take them for granted.

Kim has always cherished her husband’s sentimental gifts, including a series of home movies that he assembled for her in honor of her 36th birthday and a check for $1 million that he gave her last year in honor of their fourth child. He also recently gave her a gold plaque engraved with an inscription that he sent to her referencing her successes, such as the children and her work with prison reform.

But Kim’s latest surprise from her husband is a little out of character. She has been known to amass a collection of historical celebrity memorabilia, from a lock of Marilyn Monroe’s hair to Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” hat.

And now, it looks like Kim is also adding a piece of history to her collection: a Cartier necklace that once belonged to Princess Diana. The amethyst and diamond cross, which made headlines when it was auctioned off at Sotheby’s royal and noble sale in January, has finally found a new home with Kim.

This necklace, which is part of a collection called the Patiala Necklace, was created by Cartier in 1928 for Bhupinder Singh of Patiala and reportedly contained 2,930 diamonds. But as you can probably guess, it quickly became a hotly-contested topic on social media.

Netizens took issue with the necklace, which they described as “a piece of jewelry that reeks of royalty.” In fact, some people even compared it to another long-lost piece of jewellery that has recently been worn by Youtuber Emma Chamberlain.
