Kanye West’s a big believer in sentimental gifts, which is why he recently turned a text message he sent to wife Kim Kardashian into a one-of-a-kind necklace. Kardashian shared the necklace and the original text on Sunday night (Jan. 12) in a post.
The text, which reads “This your life,” refers to Kardashian’s successes as a mother of four. In addition, the rapper pointed to her work on prison reform in the message.

The ‘Patiala Necklace’ is an heirloom jewellery that dates back to 1928 when the Maharaja of Patiala Bhupinder Singh commissioned luxury jeweller Cartier to turn the De Beers diamond into a neck choker. The necklace is adorned with 2930 diamonds and Burmese rubies, making it one of the most expensive jewellery pieces in history.
But the Patiala Necklace has a dark history, which goes back to the Partition of India in 1947. According to reports, the necklace disappeared from the royal treasury and was found scattered across London over 30 years later. A portion of the necklace went up for sale at Sotheby’s in 1982, while others remained in storage at a second-hand store.
It was only in 1998 that Cartier bought the incomplete necklace and replaced the missing stones with replicas. It then reappeared in the Cartier archives in 2007 and was loaned to Emma Chamberlain, who wore it at the Met Gala.
Many netizens are taking exception to this and believe that Emma Chamberlain’s decision to wear the Patiala Necklace is disrespectful. As it was looted from an Indian king and taken by white colonial rulers, it’s a very sensitive issue that is sure to garner a lot of attention online.
