The Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra collection first launched in 1968 and is known for its signature motif: the four-leaf clover. Inspired by Granada’s Alhambra Palace, the design was a popular symbol of health, love, and luck. The four-leaf clover was incorporated into the VCA Alhambra collection as part of the brand’s “La Boutique” collection that addressed changing women’s tastes and included both daytime and evening jewelry.
The four-leaf clover first appeared in the 1920s and wasn’t initially considered a good luck symbol. But it did become one of the pillars of the Maison, appearing in collections as early as 1928. And it would be this iconic design that prompted Jaques to introduce the first VCA Alhambra necklace, featuring 20 clover-shaped motifs trimmed with gold beads. The vintage Alhambra collection has been faithful to the original design, and each piece is recognised for its iconic craftsmanship.
